The experience and expression of emotion has neurological underpinnings; emotions are influenced and partly determined by the nervous system/brain.

Why is it important to understand the neurological mechanisms underlying our emotions? What difference does it make? These processes will happen regardless, will they not? The answer is no, broadening understanding, a widening of perspective, a richer understanding of self are extremely powerful ways of initiating change and action, sometimes the only way. Understanding emotion helps us to view emotions more clearly and in turn respond more effectively.
